Box Score Urbana, Ohio -- In the second half of the windy double header in Ohio, the Wheeling Jesuit University Men's Soccer team faced MEC Conference opponent Urbana University Knights. The game started slowly for the Cardinals as the Knights tried to put the pressure on early.
For the first 20 minutes of play, possession was largely had by both teams in the Cardinals' half of the field. As WJU absorbed the pressure, they began to find space to break into and counter attack. The play slowly started to even out between the sides when the Cardinals struck first.
A quick attack broke down the right flank as lightening quick freshman forward
Trey Tucker ran at the Urbana defender then crossed a dangerous ball in front of the goal. The cross was initially won by a Knight defender, but Wheeling Jesuit University midfielder,
Aitor Iniguez De Heredia, had other plans. De Heredia smashed a side volley past the Urbana goalkeeper low and in the corner in the 28
th minute. The game went into half 1-0 .
With the momentum of the goal on their side, Wheeling Jesuit University came out of their shell a bit and played a much more dangerous and creative style of soccer. In the second half, most of the possession was held by the Cardinals, only to give up quick counter attacks. None of these attacks troubled senior goalkeeper
Cody Thompson as he collected 6 saves on the day. The Cardinals went on to hold the 1-0 victory to the final whistle.
