Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit women's basketball team extended its winning streak to four on Monday, knocking off a larger and more physical Concord University team 70-55.
The win puts the Cardinals at .500 on the season this far, and brings them to 2-4 this season in Mountain East Conference Play.
WJU took advantage of a first half surge that saw them up by as many as 25 points before the break to overcome the Mountain Lions. The Cardinals also were warriors on the boards, nearly doubling Concord's rebounds in the game with a 48/25 advantage.
"I think the first half we played was the best half of basketball we've played since I've been here," said WJU Head Coach "We said coming in it was going to come down to rebounding, energy and execution, and I think we did a great job on all those."
Leading the Cardinals in the stat column was Tanka Lewis, who put in 12 points with four assists in 28 minutes before going down with an injury late in the second half.
Also having a big night for the Cards were usual standouts
Breanna Butler and
Jaila Bryant who had 10 points and 8 points, respectively.
The WJU bench was a big contributor on the night, adding 28 points, led by
Kylie Frizell with 10,
Jaana Motton who had 7, and
Madison Strall who had 6 points in just 12 minutes.
The Cardinals return to the road this week with two matches against MEC foes Fairmont State and Glenville State on Thursday and Saturday before returning home for a six-game home stand.
