Cardinals Sweep Ohio Valley in Final Home Stand

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WHEELING, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit baseball team swept the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley University at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex on Tuesday afternoon. The Cardinals' offense exploded with 17 hits in game one en route to a 9-2 victory and unleashed with 20 hits in game two for a 15-5 win. With the sweep, the Cardinals improved to 11-15 in WVIAC play and 14-25 overall while OVU slipped to 4-25 in league play and 8-32 overall.
 
In game one, Jesuit established a 1-0 advantage by the end of the first inning. Jordan Kraus led-off the game with a single, and Cory Wickham moved him into scoring position. Back-to-back singles from Patrick Ammar and Tim Geibel followed as Geibel recorded the RBI. Jesuit added two runs in the second, one in the fourth, five in the fifth and one in the sixth for the 9-2 result.
 
WJU pitcher, Ethan Weiss, went the distance and did not allow a run until the final inning. Weiss allowed two runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out three batters. Corey Hull led the offense with a 4-for-4 performance with two runs scored, and Kraus followed with a 4-for-5 effort with three RBI and a run scored. Robbie Davia added a 3-for-4 performance while Tyler Kowalczyk was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI.
 
Jesuit's offense continued to fire on all cylinders in game two as Geibel was 5-for-5 with two doubles, two singles and a triple with six RBI and five runs scored. Ammar added a 4-for-5 showing with four runs scored while Hull and Kraus had three hits each. Hull was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Kraus went 3-for-5 with two homeruns and a single with three RBI and three runs scored. Davia and Nick Briski added two hits.
 
The Cardinals scored in 5-out-of-6 innings, plating three in the first, two in the second, three in the fourth, three in the fifth and four in the sixth. WJU starting pitcher, Josh Kernik, received the win while Austin Guy, Garrett Sancomb and Geibel saw action on the mound. Kernick allowed four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work. Guy hurled 1.2 innings, scattering six hits for one run and two strikeouts while Sancomb and Geibel threw a scoreless and hitless sixth and seventh innings, respectively. Geibel had one strikeout.
 
Wheeling Jesuit will wrap-up the season with a three-game series against West Liberty University on Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28. Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's 9-inning game are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at West Liberty.
