Jesuit Baseball Splits with Fairmont State on Senior Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WHEELING, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit baseball team split a doubleheader with Fairmont State University on Senior Day at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex. Jesuit fell 4-1 in 8-innings of play in game one and bounced back for a 3-1 game two victory. The Cardinals recognized eight individuals between games as Corey Hull, Jordan Kraus, Cory Wickham, Tim Geibel, Robbie Davia, Jordan Medley, Nick Briski and Parker Lang played their final home weekend series.
 
In game one, Fairmont State manufactured a run after the lead-off batter was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly out. Jesuit responded in the fifth with a run as Tyler Kowalczyk walked and Kraus followed with a double to centerfield. The game needed extra innings to decide the winner. In the eighth inning, a lead-off single followed by two walks loaded the bases for Fairmont with one out. The Falcons plated two runs on a single which deflected off the pitchers glove and traveled into shallow left field. They added another run for a 4-1 lead, and Jesuit came up empty in the final at-bat.
 
WJU starting pitcher, Tony Acierno, went five complete innings, allowing one run on seven hits and three walks while striking out two batters. Justin Fritts earned the loss with 2.1 innings pitched, allowing three runs on three walks and two singles. He struck out two batters.
 
In game two, the Cardinals plated their first run in the third inning. Briski led-off with a single through the left side and Kraus followed with an RBI single to centerfield. Jesuit plated two more runs in the sixth inning as Kraus doubled and scored on a throwing error by the FSU catcher. Patrick Ammar walked, and Davia blasted a RBI single to centerfield for the Cardinals' third run. 
 
The Falcons pushed a run across the plate in the seventh, but the Cardinals held on for a 3-1 victory.
 
WJU starting pitcher, Kraus, earned the complete game victory, scattering eight hits and a walk with no earned runs and five strikeouts. In addition, Kraus led the Cards offensive efforts with a 3-for-3 performance which included two singles, a double, RBI and a run scored. 
 
The Cardinals will be back in action at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex on Tuesday, April 23 against Ohio Valley University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
