Box Score 2 WHEELING, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit baseball team played host to Point Park University on Thursday evening at the I-470 Complex. The Cardinals dropped the doubleheader by scores of 14-2 and 1-0. The Cardinals fell to 11-23 overall while Point Parke improved to 33-13 overall.
In game one, the Pioneers took an early 1-0 lead, manufacturing a run in the second inning on a base hit, stolen base with a throwing error and a groundout to first base. The Cardinals answered with two runs in the second frame to take a brief 2-1 advantage.
Michael Adams started the inning with a walk, and
Corey Hull issued a single.
Tyler Kowalczyk walked and Adams scored on an errant throws by the Pioneers' catcher.
Nick Briski plated the second run with a groundout to first base.
Point Parke answered with a pair of runs to take a pair of runs in the third inning and one in the fourth inning for a 4-2 advantage. The Pioneers continued to pushh runners across the plate, scoring 10 runs in the last two innings.
WJU pitcher,
Austin Guy, received the loss with three innings of work , allowing three runs on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
Patrick Ammar, Tim Geibel,
Corey Hull and
Cameron Rauch all recorded singles while Briski had a RBI.
In game two, Point Park plated the first run in the second inning on four walks. PPU pitcher, Manny Perdomo, carried a perfect game into the seventh inning until he hit
Jordan Kraus with a pitch; however, Perdomo completed the no-hitter.
Wheeling Jesuit will be back in action this weekend at the J.B. Chambers I-470 Complex against Fairmont State University. Saturday's (Apr. 20) doubleheader is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
