Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla.---The Wheeling Jesuit baseball team fell 14-2 to Winona State University in their final game of the RussMatt Baseball Classic. The Cardinals will be heading north with a 3-8 overall record and conference play beginning Monday.
The Cardinals fell behind early as the Warriors opened the game with a seven run scoring outburst. WSU found the gaps as they perfectly placed seven first inning hits which included two doubles and a triple. The Warriors added three runs in the second inning, one run in the third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Tim Geibel led the Cardinal offense with a 2-for-2 performance with a walk. In the second inning, Geibel recorded WJU's first hit as he singled to left field. The Cardinals scored their first run in the third inning when
Patrick Biega led-off with a single and advanced to third on a single by
Austin Guy.
Patrick Ammar's sacrifice fly out scored Biega. In the fourth, Geibel followed his single with a deep fly ball that cleared the playing surface, recording the Cardinals first homerun of the season and second run of the game.
Nick Briski added a hit for the Cardinals. WJU pitcher
Parker Lang earned the loss.
Wheeling Jesuit will begin conference play on the road at Glenville State College on Monday, March 11. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
