Jesuit Falls 9-3 to the Storm

Box Score BETHANY, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit men's lacrosse team fell behind early and couldn't recover against Lake Erie College, who held on for a 9-3 league win. Lake Erie picked up their first Eastern College Athletic Conference win while improving to 4-1 overall. Jesuit fell to 2-2 in ECAC play and 6-3 overall.
 
Lake Erie flew to a 4-0 advantage and held the Cardinals scoreless in the first half. The Storm opened the second half with two more goals for a 6-0 lead. With 3:52 left in the third period, WJU's Tyler Buchan rattled the cage, sparking a 3-0 Cardinal run which cut the Storm's lead in half by the end of the period. Bryce Brochu buried Jesuit's second goal, and with 50-seconds left, Aaron Gutentag found Brian Frank for a goal. Lake Erie ended Jesuit's run four minutes into the fourth period and tacked on two more goals before time expired.
 
Shots were fairly even as LEC held a 33-31 advantage; however, Jesuit only managed eight shots on goal. Defensively, Matt Maccario and Corey Luebbe caused four turnovers apiece while Ed Monahan caused three. Lake Erie held a 44-34 edge in ground balls.
 
WJU Goalie Jim LaPenna (5-3) earned the loss while collecting 11 saves.
 
The Cardinals will travel to Charlotte, N.C. to play the University of Tampa on Saturday, March 23. Face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
