Cardinals Earn First Shutout Victory, 21-0

Box Score BETHANY, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit men's lacrosse team delivered its first shutout of the season on Tuesday evening at Bison Stadium on the campus of Bethany College. The Cardinals posted back-to-back games of 20+ goals, defeating Ohio Valley University 21-0.
 
Brian Frank led the Cardinals' offensive efforts with four goals, and Tyler Wickett followed with three. Landon DelPrince, Sean Wright and Duston Doudelet each added a pair of goals while Bryce Brochu, Danny Bichsel, Tyler Johnson, Tyler Buchan, Jared Sims, Aaron Gutentag, Matt Devries and Jared Baronowski all had one goal.
 
Brochu added two assists, and Danny Bichsel, Landon DelPrince, Aaron GofreedEvan Hodel, Tyler Johnson and Sean Wright each tallied one assist.
 
WJU held a 52-19 advantage in shots and picked up 51 ground balls compared to OVU's 19 ground balls. The Cardinals controlled the face-off X with a 16-7 advantage as Evan Hodel was 9-1 and Josh Lambert was 6-5 – Gutentag added a face-off win. Hodel picked up a team-best 11 ground balls and Lambert followed with five.
 
Jim LaPenna and Joe Amsler split time in the cage as LaPenna earned the victory with seven saves. Amsler followed with five saves.
 
Wheeling Jesuit started the scoring at 11:40 when Gofreed found Gutentag for a goal. The Cardinals held a 1-0 advantage for the next four minutes, but at 7:42, WJU unleashed with four-straight scores. Wright ignited the run, and 34-seconds later, DelPrince rattled the cage. Frank fired in back-to-back shots at 6:08 and 4:08, respectively, and the Cardinals held a 5-0 lead at the end of the first period. The Cardinals found the back of the net seven times in the second frame as Frank added another pair followed by goals from Wickett, Brochu, Johnson, Sims and Wright.
 
After the break, Jesuit's offense continued to roll, posting five goals in the third and four in the final period.
 
With the win, the Cardinals improved to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) play.
 
Wheeling Jesuit will travel to Gaffney, S.C. for a game with Limestone on March 2. Face-off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
