Box Score PHILIPPI, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit men's lacrosse used a 10-0 scoring outburst to fuel a 20-4 rout of Alderson-Broaddus College on the road Saturday afternoon. Ten Cardinals touched the back of the net in the win, and goalies
Jim LaPenna and
Joe Amsler spit time between the pipes. LaPenna earned the win as the Cardinals improved to 1-1 overall, and the Battlers fell to 0-1 overall.
Duston Doudelet led the Cardinals' scoring efforts while
Brian Frank led WJU's offense with seven points. Doudelet notched four goals while Frank handed out five assists and with two goals.
Sean Wright added three assists and two goals, and
Tyler Buchan had three goals.
Landon DelPrince, Jared Baronowski and
Evan Hodel notched two goals each while
Josh McQuaide,
Jared Sims and
Bryce Brochu all had one goal.
Rob Mills,
Aaron Gofreed,
Matt Devries and Connor Summer added assists.
The Battlers started the scoring at 8:12 for an early 1-0 advantage. Wheeling Jesuit responded 49-seconds later when Frank found Wright for a goal to tie the game at one goal apiece which ignited a 10-goal run. Frank followed with the second goal as Summers led him to the cage. Mills found Doudelet for a goal, and Buchan rattled the cage at the end of the first period for a 5-1 advantage.
The Cardinals carried the momentum into the second frame as Doudelet fired back-to-back shots between the pipes. Wright assisted the second goal and found Frank for another goal 37-seconds later. Frank and Wright teamed up for another goal at 6:43, this time, Fank scored and Wright was on the assist. Doudelet touched the back of the net for the fourth time at 5:54, and 40-seconds later, Baronowski lifted the Cardinals to a 10-1 advantage.
AB followed with back-to-back goals, and DelPrince ended the half with a goal to give Jesuit 11-3 halftime advantage.
After the break, WJU rattled-off four consecutive goals before AB found the net with 1:12 remaining in the third period. Jesuit used the final 15 minutes to add five goals en route to the 20-4 victory.
Wheeling Jesuit will be back in action on Tuesday, February 26 at Bison Stadium on the campus of Bethany College. The Cardinals will play host to Ohio Valley University. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
