Box Score ATHENS, WVa. – For the Wheeling Jesuit University women's soccer team it was a tale of two halves as the Cardinals tied Concord University 1-1 in Mountain East Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
Concord University came out of the gate fast and pressured WJU in the first half. The Mountain Lions outshot Wheeling Jesuit 15 to 5 in the first 45 minutes of play. Concord's #8 Kari Simon put Concord up 1-0 at the 42:55 mark on a goal that resulted from a throw in by #15 Brenda Arriaza.
Wheeling Jesuit came firing back in the second half, posting 11 shots on goal to Concord's 6. Wheeling Jesuit was awarded a penalty kick that resulted after a scramble in front of the goal mouth following a corner kick. The referee ruled that the Concord defender used her hand to stop a goal that would have otherwise went in. #4
Caroline Gacka (Senior, Allison Park, Pa.) finished off the penalty kick at 75:09, pulling WJU even 1-1.
Concord was awarded a penalty kick in the second overtime. Concord's #24 Emily Cole penalty kick went high and wide right.
Wheeling Jesuit had opportunities in both overtimes including four shots on goal in the second OT. The tie moves WJU's record in the Mountain East Conference to 4-4-3 and 5-7-3 overall.
