Box Score WHEELING, W.Va.---It was a great day for the Wheeling Jesuit men's soccer program, as two members were enshrined in WJU's Hall of Fame, and the current team, walked away with a 1-0 WVIAC victory in the closing minutes of the Homecoming and Alumni Weekend match at James LaRosa Soccer Complex.
Prior to Saturday afternoon's contest, former WJU standout, Roger Guiseppi, and Head Coach Jim Regan were placed in the Wheeling Jesuit Athletic Hall of Fame. Shortly after Regan's squad shared the field with the visiting Griffins of Seton Hill University. The Cardinals added another notch in the win column for Regan's career record, making it 355-205-48, while the team improved to 10-6 overall and 6-2 in WVIAC play.
Philip Mshelbwala's late game heroics, in the 88
th minute, lifted the Cardinals past the Griffins.
Victor Picchio sent a long pass into the box for Mshelbwala, who pick the ball out of mid-air with a bicycle kick whick flew over the goalkeeper.
Prior to Mshelbwala's game winner, the Griffins were on the attack with a breakaway when WJU goalkeeper
Cody Thompson received a card in the box. SHU's McDonald Taylor Jr. lined up for the penalty kick, and tried to place it into the lower right corner when Thompson made a diving save to keep the match equalized at 0-0.
The Cardinals outshot the Griffins 20-4 and earned an 11-7 advantage from the corner. Thompson recorded three saves and the win.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Wednesday, October 24 at James LaRosa Soccer Complex against the University of Charleston, Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
