Wheeling, W. Va. - The Wheeling Men's Soccer team (0-1)(1-2) get their home conference campaign started Wednesday as they welcome Frostburg State to the wheel, with kick off at 7pm. A heartbreaking Point Park goal with seconds left on the clock was the decider in what was a 2-1 loss for the Cardinals last Sunday in Pittsburgh.

Although they cane away with defeat, the Cardinals still had plenty of strong individual performances to instill them with confidence going into tomorrow's tie. Alberto Madail, a freshman goalkeeper from Monagas, Venezuela, came up with some crucial saves throughout the game to keep the Cardinals in it. He made 8 saves on the afternoon, setting a very impressive early season average of 5.5 saves a game after his 3 against Cal-U to open the season.

Adding his name to the scoresheet for the Cardinals against Point Park was Sophomore Frenchman Elie Simon, who got his first of the season assisted by Dominic Lopez-Aceves. Wheeling ended the tie against Point Park with 11 shots but only three on target, eight less than that of the Pioneers, proving to be the difference maker on the night. Sunday was the Cardinal's second defeat of the season thus far, and the second by a 2-1 scoreline. Additionally, in each of the Cardinal's two losses thus far, the winning goal has come after the 86th minute. Wheeling could easily be undefeated going into tomorrow, with both losses coming right down to the wire.

Wheeling opened their home schedule on August 30th with a visit from Walsh, ending in a brilliant 3-1 win. The home record will be important for the Cardinals this year, with many home games getting away from them in previous seasons. The opener against Walsh couldn't have been a better way to start, and a bigger challenge in the form of Frostburg State awaits tomorrow. Frostburg are undefeated thus far in 2026, with only one conference game in the bank against Davis and Elkins, which they tied. Wheeling's record against Frostburg isn't favourable, with only 3 wins in 13 previous meetings. Tomorrows tie will be a tough test for the Cardinal's, but with one win already at home this season, Head Coach Jack Shearer will see no reason why his team can't make it two tomorrow night.
