WHEELING, W.Va. – After wrestling his way to his first NCAA Nationals appearance, Sawyer Leppla is the WJU Male Athlete of the Week!

Sawyer began the super-regional unseeded and wrestled his way to a fourth place finish. His previous best finish was sixth place in both his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Leppla won his final two matches, including a defeat of Collin Schildt of Kutztown University by decision, 8-4, to claim his spot at Nationals. He took down No. 4 Angelo Bortoluzzi, 11-4, to qualify for the fourth place match.

Leppla and his three teammates - Dominick Nania, Nolan Whitely, and Logan Bowman – will compete at the NCAA Division II Championships on March 11-12, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
