WHEELING, W.Va. – After helping lead the Cardinals to a 2-0 week, Mariah Callen of the women’s basketball team has been named the WJU female Athlete of the Week.
Callen, a sophomore guard from Morgantown, WV (University), started the first half of last Wednesday’s contest against Glenville State on fire. She tallied 19 points on 7-7 shooting in the first half of play, to give the Cardinals a 22-point lead. She finished the night with 22 points to help WJU pick up its 12 win of the season.
Mariah turned in a balanced attack consisting of five points, four rebounds, four assists, and a steal in the Cardinals 63-39 victory over Concord University. On the year, Callen is averaging 11.9 points and 3.4 rebounds, and has dished out 41 assists.
Callen and the Cardinals (13-2, 8-1 MEC) complete their four-game road trip tonight, January 18, when they face UVA-Wise at 5:30 p.m.
