Men’s Rugby Opener Against Thomas More Postponed, Cardinals Set for ARC Opener

Wheeling, W. Va. – On Saturday, the Wheeling University Men's Rugby team was set to begin their quest for their first-ever 15s National title. The journey will have to wait one more week, as the team announced that their home opener against Thomas More on Saturday, August 29, has been postponed. The two teams will look to reschedule the contest with a make-up date to be announced.

After reporting for fall camp back on August 7, the Cardinals have been training for the last two weeks in preparation for their 15s schedule. After finishing fifth overall in their inaugural season as a member of the ARC, the Cardinals return several veteran players to help lead this year's team. They return two of their three All-Conference honorees from a season ago, including the defending National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) Player of the Year, Alex Nyamunda. Nyamunda set the program's career 15's try record a season ago, scoring 16 tries during the season. The other returning All-Conference player is Taku Musingwini, who made some history of his own in the kicking game. Musingwini set the single-season record for conversion kicks, conversion kicks attempted, and penalty kicks made. Both will look to lead the Cardinals this season as they contend for their first-ever 15s National title.

The Wheeling University Men's Rugby team will return to action on Saturday, September 5, when they host Belmont Abbey College.
