Wheeling, W. Va. – Easter break came a little early for the Wheeling University Women's Lacrosse team (5-6, 2-2) as they were supposed to travel to West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. On Friday, it was announced that the game has been forfeited due to Weather Virginia Wesleyan announcing that they will not finish the 2026 season. As a result of this announcement, Wheeling will earn 1-0 forfeit wins for tomorrow's contest, as well as their home game against the Bobcats on April 18th. As a result of the decision, the Cardinals will head into Easter break sitting at 7-6 overall and 4-2 in Mountain East Conference (MEC) play.
Last time out, the Cardinals welcomed in Mountain East Conference (MEC) leading Frostburg State, looking for a share of the top spot in the conference. However, the conference's leading offense came out strong, scoring five goals in 10 minutes to put the Cardinals down early. Wheeling would score a goal of their own during the opening quarter and, after one quarter of play, the Cardinals trailed 7-1. Wheeling would get four goals during that first half, and headed into the break trailing 13-4. The Cardinals would also start the second half scoring, getting as close as 13-5 before Frostburg State rounded out the day. They scored four goals each in the third and fourth quarters and eclipsed the 20-goal mark. Wheeling would add two more goals before the game let out, falling 21-7 to move to 2-2 in conference play.
The Wheeling University Women's Lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, April 8th, when they travel to Davis & Elkins with opening draw at 4 PM.
