Wheeling, W. Va. - With an impending weather system coming through the northeast this weekend, the Wheeling University Men's Lacrosse team (6-5, 5-3) announced a change to their weekend schedule. Their match-up with Walsh has been moved up to Friday, April 17th, with opening face-off scheduled for 7 PM. The Cardinals will be looking to officially clinch their spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament with a win, or as long as the Point Park vs. Thomas More game does not end in a tie.
Last time out, the Cardinals welcomed in Malone in a game that was defined by defense early on, with neither team scoring through the first 15 minutes of play. Malone would be the first on the scoreboard, putting in back-to-back goals to take a 2-0 lead with 5:41 to go before the half. Wheeling would add two more goals before the halftime break, and Wheeling would enter the locker room tied at 2-2. As they came out of the locker room, the Cardinals scored the first two goals of the half, and four of the first six goals as they opened up the scoring to 6-3. Malone would make one more push, getting the game as close as 6-5 with 4:08 to play in the third before the Cardinals iced the game. They would go on a 6-0 run over the next 15 minutes and went on to win the game by the final score of 13-6.
Opening face-off for Saturday's game against Walsh is scheduled for 7 PM inside Larry Staudt Field on the campus of Walsh.
