Schedule Change: Baseball Series Opener with Fairmont State Pushed to Friday

Wheeling, W. Va. - After coming off a midweek battle with California University of Pennsylvania, the Wheeling University Baseball team (27-10, 13-3) is ready to jump back into Mountain East Conference (MEC) North Divisional Play. On Wednesday, the team announced a change to their upcoming divisional match-up with Fairmont State, moving the first day of the series up a day. The Cardinals and Falcons will now face-off on Friday, April 17th in the first two games of their four-game set at 2 PM, before finishing the series on Sunday, April 19th at 1 PM.

The Cardinals are coming off a big Atlantic Region match-up with CAL-U that came down to the final inning. After the Vulcans opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first, Wheeling would get the bats going, taking their first lead of the contest with a two-spot in the top of the second. They added insurance with a run in the top of the fourth, backing a strong outing by starting pitcher Jacob Rollyson. Rollyson would keep the Vulcans scoreless through seven, and a two-run double from Nicholas Schulz opened things up to a 5-1 lead for the Cardinals. CAL-U cut into the lead with a run in the bottom of the eighth, and  rallied in the bottom of the ninth. The Cardinals would get the first out of the inning, but a four-run one-out rally would lead to a 6-5 walk-off win, handing the Cardinals their 10th loss of the season.

The Wheeling University Baseball team returns to action on Friday, April 17th, when they battle Fairmont State in the first two games of their four-game series, with first pitch at 2 PM.
