Wheeling, WV- The Wheeling University Softball team (7-27), (2-10) will host two south division opponents this weekend at JB Chambers I-470 complex. Wheeling is nearly halfway through conference play and has a big opportunity to beat a couple good teams this weekend.
Against Malone University on Wednesday, Wheeling's pitching dominated allowing 3 earned runs in twelve innings pitched. Kaylin Shields threw 6 innings, throwing 123 pitches and struck out 8 batters in game 1. Game two, Ryleigh Peters had her best start of the season. She only allowed 4 base runners, all off of singles, no earned runs, and had a season high in strikeouts. Offensively, Mackenzie Burns had 5 hits during the double header and Maria Clark had 3 hits with an RBI. Wheeling will need performances like these from their stars to pull off some upsets this weekend.Â
