Wheeling, W. Va. - With spring break underway, the Wheeling University Women's Lacrosse team (0-3, 0-0) takes on their first multi-game week of the 2026 season. They start the spring break schedule when they host Chestnut Hill on Tuesday, with opening draw at 1 PM. Wheeling will be looking to bounce back on offense, after being held to single digits in each of the last two games, as they look for their first win of the season.
The Cardinals kicked off their current three-game homestand last time out when they hosted Shepherd University. The Cardinals took charge early in the game, scoring two goals over the first six minutes of play to take a 2-1 advantage. The teams battled back and forth through the first eight minutes, and with 6:28 showing on the first half clock, the Cardinals were staked to a 3-2 lead. However, Shepherd would hit a 7-0 run and by the halftime break, Shepherd would hold the advantage at 10-4. Wheeling would tack on one goal each in the third and fourth quarters, but Shepherd's offense was too much to handle. The Cardinal's final goal of the day would come with 1:18 left on the fourth quarter clock, but it wasn't enough as Wheeling would fall by the final score of 21-6.
After a strong first season in the Cardinal's midfield, junior Trinity Rose has continued her success into the 2026 season. She put together her second multi-goal game of the season, scoring a season-high three goals while adding two assists to finish with five points. All three numbers were season-high's for Rose, while she put five of her seven shots taken on the day on net. However, her biggest contributions would come on the defensive end, where she led the team with five caused turnovers and six draw controls in the effort. She would also tie for the team lead with four ground balls to round out the big day, and she looks to continue leading the Cardinals throughout the 2026 season.
Finishing right behind her was senior Jovie Noack, who finished with one goal and one assist to finish with two points on the day. She would end up as Wheeling's most efficient shooter, putting all three of her shots on net, while adding a ground ball on the defensive end. The senior would open up the scoring with her first goal at the 11:52 mark of the first, and would assist on the Cardinal's second goal to Paige Jankowski to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead. Rounding out the scoring was Klara Domachowska, who equaled Noack's mark with one goal and one assist to finish with two points. Like Rose, she also made a big impact on the defensive side as well, picking up three caused turnovers, four groundballs, and three draw controls in the effort.
As the Cardinals continue this three-game non-conference homestand, the Cardinals are looking to keep their early offense going later into games. In both the match-up with Shepherd and Shippensburg, the Cardinal offense got started early, but weren't able to sustain it through the rest of the game. Wheeling has scored seven of their 21 goals in the first quarter of games, making it their highest scoring quarter of the season so far. After trailing throughout each of their first two games of the season, the Cardinals got a chance to hold their first lead in the meeting with Shepherd. As the Cardinals continue to learn how to play together, they look to build on that first half momentum and sustain the success throughout the game against Chestnut Hill as they hunt for their first win of the season.
The Match-up
The Cardinals and Griffins are meeting for the first time in program history when they meet up Tuesday at Bishop Schmitt Field. Chestnut Hill enters Tuesday's game sitting at 1-0 after picking up a 14-2 win over the University of the District of Columbia. Chestnut Hill is coming off a 2025 season that saw them go 3-8 overall and 3-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play. Wheeling is looking to open the all-time series with a win on their home field.
