Cardinals Travel to Pittsburgh in Hopes for Fourth Straight Win

Wheeling, W. Va- The Wheeling University Women's Basketball team (15-11), (10-8) picked up their third straight win and officially swept the season series against the first-place team in the Mountain East Conference (MEC), the Glenville State Lady Pioneers on Saturday afternoon. The 62-50 victory came after outscoring the opposition in three of the four quarters and holding the top-scoring offense in the league to a measly 17 points in the second half. To add to the headlines, senior Kenzie Dalton recorded her 1,000th career point to make the victory that much sweeter.

Graci Fairman popped off last Saturday against the Lady Pioneers, recording a season-high 23-points. The senior has played a full 40 minutes in each of the past two games and has made at least seven baskets from the field in those games. Fairman has made 59.2% (16-27) of her shots from the field in the past two outings. Her and the Cardinals have been catching fire in the final stretch of the season, and with two games remaining, Wheeling has a chance to enter the tournament on a five-game win streak.

The Cardinals only played six players against Glenville State, meaning just one player came off the bench, and that player was Hillari Baker. The sophomore recorded her highest number of minutes this season and dropped a season-high 14 points. The Carrollton, Ohio native made six of ten shots from the field and came down with four rebounds in the upset win over the Lady Pioneers. Coming off a performance like that, look for Baker to see more action off the bench.

Other than the Cardinals sweeping the first-place team in the conference, Kenzie Dalton made headlines against the Lady Pioneers, becoming the 30th player in Wheeling Women's Basketball history to record 1,000 career points. Number 11 crossed the threshold with 1:11 left in the third quarter when she set up shop from the top of the key, drilling in the three-pointer that etched her name in the record book.

With just two games remaining in the season, the Cardinals are sixth in the conference, meaning that as of now, they qualify for a first-round bye. As it currently stands, they would play third-place Charleston on March 5th, which might be the best-case scenario for the team. Even though the Golden Eagles swept the season series against the Cardinals, both games have ended within at least five points. Depending on what Fairmont and Concord do in their games will depend on the final seeding.

The Matchup

Point Park is coming off a 60-51 road loss against Frostburg. The Pioneers' offense was led by a 14-point performance by junior Lucia Hervia followed by 10 points from senior Alexis Giles and junior Elizabeth Boyd.

Wheeling is 3-0 against Point Park and most recently won 67-53 earlier this season on December 3rd, 2025, inside the McDonough Center. Emilia Sierra Lacosta recorded 19 points, Dalton finished with 17, Layla Merriweather ended with 14, and Emma Reynolds recorded 13.
