Wheeling, W. Va. – With the 2026 NCAA DII Regional tournaments tipping off this week, the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) released their annual Women's Basketball All-Tournament teams. For the first time since the 2022-2023 season, the Wheeling University Women's Basketball team was honored, after earning the Mountain East Conference's #6 seed in the tournament. Senior guard Kenzie Dalton was named to the D2CCA Second Team All-Region team, wrapping up a career year on the court.
Dalton would finish the 2025-2026 season as the Cardinal's leader on the court, taking the top spot in most statistical categories. After passing the ball for a majority of her first three seasons, the senior showed that she could score the ball as well, averaging 17.4 points per game. She finsihed the year as the 4th leading scorer in the conference, while holding an impressive .462 mark from the floor. Along with her scoring ability, Dalton would also set a new career-high with 7.4 rebounds per game, while also finishing with a career-best 156 assists and 100 steals. She was the conference leader in assists for the second year in a row, holding a 34 assist lead over West Liberty's Ana-Isabel Andersson, and was the conference's leader with 100 steals. She rounded out her big season as the eighth leading rebounder in the conference, sitting top 10 in four different categories.
For her efforts, Dalton received several postseason honors from the MEC, including being named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Her conference leading steals and assists helped her clinch the title, making her the only player to have won the award in the conference's two seasons of handing out the honors. Along with her Defensive Player of the Year honor, Dalton also earned First Team All-MEC honors for the first time in her career. It was the second time that Dalton has been recognized as an All-MEC player, rounding out a career year. She also made her mark on program history, becoming the 30th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark. She would also reach the plateaus of 500 career rebounds, 500 career assists, and 300 career steals.
With the announcement of Dalton as an All-Region honoree, the Wheeling University Athletic Department has now had three athletes earn All-Region honors. Dalton is the first honoree for the Women's Basketball team since the 2022-2023 season, when former Cardinal Lauren Calhoun earned Second Team All-Region honors. The last team to be recognized with All-Region honorees was Wheeling Volleyball, with Camryn Matus and Katie Wilking each taking home honors.
The Wheeling University Women's Basketball team continues their off-season run as they prepare for the 2026-2027 season.
