Savannah Isaac Ranked #2 in the Country in HerMat Preseason Rankings

Wheeling, W. Va. - On Sunday, history will be made when the Wheeling University Women's Wrestling team takes the mat for their first-ever match at the Tiffin Open. Before they take the mat, HerMat released their official preseason rankings on October 27, and the Cardinals were represented as they get set to begin their inaugural season. Sophomore Savannah Isaac was ranked #2 in the country in the 207-pound weight class as her team gets set to put those preseason rankings to the test.

Isaac comes to the Cardinals after wrestling her freshman season at Life University, leading the Running Eagles to their first-ever NAIA National Championship. Isaac would be one of four All-Americans for Life University a season ago, and wrapped up her freshman season by winning the NAIA National Championship at 207 pounds. Between her high school and college wrestling career, Isaac has racked up a combined record of 237-59, and is one of the most decorated high school wrestlers in the state of Ohio. During her career at Withmer High School, Isaac was a 4X Ohio State Champion at 207 pounds, as she became a pioneer in the sport.

At last year's NAIA National Championship, Isaac would roll through the early rounds of competition. She picked up back-to-back pinfalls to start the tournament, before wrestling her first six minute match of the night. She would earn a 7-0 decision to move on to the NAIA National Championship match. She would face off with Riley Dempewolf from, Indiana Tech, and the two wrestlers were locked in a tight battle. In the end, Isaac would be the one to come out on top, earning a 4-1 decision to claim the National Title. She earned First Team All-American status for her efforts, and was the highest point scorer for the Running Eagles, scoring 14 points at the event.

Leading the 207-pound weight class rankings was Glenville State's Savrina Nauss, who won the National Title a season ago. Isaac would take second in the rankings, with King's Eliana Bommarito rounding out the top three. The full look at the 207-pound ranking is listed below:
