Wheeling, W. Va. - No matter how far our alumni roam, the Wheeling University Athletic Department is always happy to welcome our Cardinal family home though these country roads. The Cardinals will welcome home their Cardinal Family Friday, October 3rd through Sunday, October 4th, with their annual Homecoming, Family, & Hall of Fame Weekend. With three full days of events for students, alumni, and their families, the Cardinals will be welcoming back the past while celebrating the future.
The weekend kicks off on Friday, with registration in Swint Hall just outside the Ratt from 3-6:30 PM. This is where attendees can pick up their packet for the weekend as well as learn about all the events going on. Dr. Dianna Vargo will then hold a welcome reception in the Ratt from 5-7 PM, which will include both food and a cash bar for alumni and friends to reminisce on their times as a Cardinal. The first athletic event of the weekend will be later that night as the Wheeling Volleyball team takes the Alma Grace McDonough Center and the Wheeling Men's Rugby team takes the pitch at Bishop Schmitt Field. The Cardinal Volleyball team will take on Point Park in MEC action while the Men's Rugby team battles Queens University of Charlotte, with both games beginning at 7 PM.
On Saturday, the Athletic Department will honor the 2025 Wheeling Athletics Hall of Fame Class. A reception will be held in Troy Theater from 9 AM – 10 AM, followed by the induction ceremony beginning at 10 AM. Mark Greaney, Kirstin Hearn, Rusty Fry, Kim Melinauskas, Eric Faulkner, Katie Repickey, Terrance Bradley, Amanda Davidson, Rick Soos, and the 1988-89 Basketball team will all be honored at the event. Tickets for the event can be purchased for $20 a piece and there will be food and beverages available at the reception and the ceremony. Each of the honorees will get a chance to address the crowd and talk about their time in a Cardinal uniform and what it means to them to be inducted.
Following the Hall of Fame ceremony, alumni are welcomed down to the Sara Tracy Parking Lot for the Red Zone Tailgate. In order to attend the Redzone Tailgate, attendees must purchase a 2025 Tailgate and Weekend Game Pass to attend. Food and drink will be provided as alumni can mingle before the Cardinals take the field. At the same time, the Wheeling Athletic Teams will be participating in the annual Club Carnival, beginning at 2 PM. Fans will be able to interact with the different teams on campus, participating in games and other activities. Saturday will be another athletic doubleheader with Wheeling Football battling West Virginia Wesleyan at 3:30 PM, followed by Women's Rugby taking on Aquinas College at 7 PM.
The final day of the weekend will bring together the alumni for an Alumni Council meeting inside the CET building at 9 AM. Following the meeting, everyone is welcomed inside the Chapel of Mary & Joseph for Sunday Mass, led by Director of Campus Ministry Father David Griffin. The weekend wraps up at Bishop Schmitt Field with the Wheeling Women's Soccer team taking on Davis & Elkins at 2 PM. Alumni are encouraged to pre-register for all the weekend activities and come home and celebrate with your Cardinal family.
