Wheeling, W. Va. - During their inaugural season, the Wheeling University Acrobatics & Tumbling team had plenty of success on the mat, finishing 2-6 overall and 1-5 in Mountain East Conference play, while sending one event to the MEC event finals. That success continued off the mat, with the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) releasing their Academic Honor Roll. The Cardinals had 18 honorees on this year's list, finishing in the top 15 in the nation in terms of the number of students honored.
In order to be eligible for the 2025 NCATA Academic Honor Roll, a player must have been an active member of the roster and finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.30. This GPA must be verified by a school official and sent into the NCATA for nomination. This year, over 650 student-athletes from 45 different institutions were honored on the list for their work both on the mat and in the classroom. The honorees on the 2025 NCATA Academic Honor Roll were announced following the NCATA event finals back on April 27th, 2025, along with the organizations other postseason awards, including All-American teams and the most outstanding athletes from each division.
In their inaugural season, the Cardinals would put 18 members on the NCATA Academic Honor Roll, tying them for 11th most in the nation. Among their 18 award winners were three 4.0 GPAs along with 16 of the 18 nominees having a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Two of the three athletes that competed in the event finals qualified for the Academic Honor Roll as well. Among MEC teams, the Cardinals were tied for the second most honorees in the conference with Frostburg State and was seven spots behind Frostburg State for the top mark in the conference. They look to continue that success both on the mat and in the classroom as the program continues to grow.
