Dobson Takes Fourth as Wheeling Men’s Golf Takes on WLU Spring Invitational

West Liberty, W. Va. – After having their weekend event canceled at Ohio Dominican, the Wheeling University Men's Golf team took to the golf course on Monday. The team headed to nearby Oglebay Park for the 2025 WLU Spring Invitational taking on several Mountain East Conference (MEC) opponents. The Cardinals put together a two-round score of 602, finishing seventh in the field.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was Sean Dobson, who built off his success from the MEC Spring Classic. Dobson would finish fourth in the field, shooting a 139 across 36 holes of competition, as led the field after one round. He shot a 70 in that first round of competition, leading the tournament field after 18 holes. He began his day on hole eight and, after shooting a bogey on hole one, he came back with a big response. He would hit back-to-back birdies on holes nine and 10, and ended up having three birdies in the first round. As he headed into round two, he was even better, picking up five more birdies and would finish -2 with a score of 69. Dobson would finish four strokes off Davis & Elkins's Elias Jarin for the top spot in the field.

The other two Cardinals to hit the top 40 on the day were Lodin Femoen and Valdimir Zhang, who each shot 154 between the two rounds to finish in a tie for 40th overall. Femoen would start things strong setting a PR in round one shooting a 74. Femoen would start things with a birdie on hole eight and would follow it up with four straight pars. As he headed into round two, Fomeon would add one more birdie in the second round of the day and would finish with an 80 to round out the day. For Zhang, it was a pair of PR efforts for the sophomore, who shot a pair of 77's on the day. Zhang would pick up the first two birdies of his career in his first round of the day, shooting +3 in both the front nine and back nine. In round two, he would duplicate the effort and rounded out his best collegiate performance.

The final two Cardinals to compete on the day were Caleb Minson and Lorenzo Lupi to round out the top five. Minson would finish one stroke behind Zhang and Femoen, finishing 43rd overall with a score of 155 across 36 holes. Just one stroke separated his first round score from his second round score as he shot 78 in round one and 77 in round two. Lupi would round out the day, finishing 63rd shooting a 167 through 36 rounds of competition. He would shoot an 85 in round one and followed that with an 82 in round two. Beau Velasquez would round out the day, shooting a pair of 87's over the two rounds.

The Wheeling University Men's Golf team returns to action on Monday, April 21st, when they compete on day one of the NCAA DII Atlantic Regional Preview..
