Women’s Track & Field Grabs Five Top 20 Finishes on Day Two of Dave Labor Invitational

Slippery Rock, PA. – After the Women's Hammer Throw got things started on day one, the rest of the Wheeling University Women's Outdoor Track & Field team made their way to Slippery Rock for day two of the Dave Labor Invitational. The team had a big day, with five top 20 finishes on the day. The Cardinals saw success both on the track and in the field as they put together one of their best performances of the season.

Leading the way was Shannon Farrow on the track who competed in both the 200 Meter and 100 Meter dashes. Her top finish would come in the 200 Matter event, where she finished 16th with a time of 26.65 seconds. It was the top finish among Mountain East Conference (MEC) competition at the event and was the end of a strong day for the senior. Farrow began her day in the 100-Meter Dash prelims, looking to build off a strong showing at the Tim Weaver Invitational. She would tie her PR from the final run of that event, putting up a time of 12.82 seconds. It was once again the top finish of any MEC competitor at the event and tied her PR as she continues her strong run during outdoor season. She is the veteran on the track and looks to lead the way for the young competitors.

The top individual placement of the day was courtesy of Keala McCurry in the Women's Pole Vault. McCurry would take 12th in the Women's Pole Vault. McCurry would reach a height of 3.40 meters, finishing just . 10  meters away from the benchmark she set to start the season. She was joined in the event by teammate Courtney Hurst, who took home a 24th place finish with a height of 2.80 Meters to round out the event. The final two top 20 finishes also came in the field events with Tara Perry and Trinity Ortiz taking home the honors. Perry would take 14th in the Women's High Jump, reaching a height of 1.50 meters in her second outdoor event of the season. Ortiz would round out the day in the Women's Javelin, where she finished with a distance of 32.24 meters.

The field events rounded out with the Women's Shot Put, as Amber Yoho took the circle. Yoho finished 24th overall with a distance of 8.48 meters as she kicked off her outdoor season. The final three events would come on the track with Gabby Baiano, Sophia Zanieski, and Gianna Bjorn rounding out the day. Baiano took on the 5000 Meter Run and had the highest finish of the three, putting together a time of  20:46.33. She led the distance group for the Cardinals and continued to build off her swim season. Bjorn was back in the 100-Meter Dash for the second straight event, running a time of 16.26 to finish 53rd in the field. Zanieski rounded out the day in the 800-Metet Run, running a time of 3:12.71.

The Wheeling University Women's Outdoor Track & Field team returns to action on Friday, April 11th, when they take on the Mount Olive Trojan Relays.
