Strong Outdoor Season Nabs McCurry All-Region Honors

Wheeling, W. Va. – Following the final last chance meets of the outdoor season, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their Outdoor All-Region list. After earning the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championship in the Pole Vault this past outdoor season, Keala McCurry was the lone Cardinal representative, taking home All-Region honors in the Pole Vault. It is the first time in her career that she earned the honor for outdoor season, as she wrapped up a strong career in a Cardinal uniform.

McCurry would be a dual threat for the Cardinals throughout the outdoor season, competing in her usual Pole Vault, while also taking on the 400-Meter Hurdles for the first time since her sophomore season. After taking home the MEC Championship in the Pole Vault, as well as setting the new meet record with a height of 3.60 meters, McCurry looked to build off that momentum into outdoor season. She earned two individual championships during the outdoor season, but her best performance would come at the Otterbein Invitational. She fell just .01 meters away from her PR in the event, and .05 meters away from the NCAA Provo Mark, when she reached a height of 3.74 meters. She entered the postseason as the MEC favorite, and captured her fourth title in the event, clearing 3.35 meters and earning her third conference title for outdoor season.

For McCurry, it is her third career All-Region honors, and the first she has won during the outdoor season. Her previous two All-Region honors both came during Indoor season, winning honors during both the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 campaign. McCurry finished the year as the top Pole Vaulter in the MEC, with a height of 3.74 meters and was among the best in the Atlantic Region. She ranked fifth in the region in the event, sitting behind Allison Taylor (SRU), Megan Malecki (Millersville), Annika Hummell (West Chester), and Coral Shivok (Bloomsburg). Along with her success in the Pole Vault, McCurry also did good work in her return to the 400-Meter Hurdles, ranking top 20 in the region with a time of 1:04.80.

The Wheeling University Outdoor Track & Field team now heads into the offseason as they look to continue their success and build their team culture.
