Morgantown, W. Va. – The final day of the 2025 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Outdoor Track & Field championships competed at Mylan Park on Tuesday. The Wheeling University Men's Outdoor Track & Field team would pick up 21 points at the event and finished 10th in the tournament field. The final day was highlighted by their first podium athlete of the day as the Cardinals earned their first All-MEC honoree.
The honor would come from Kabwe Bwalya, who took second in the Men's Triple Jump and finished just .08 meters shy of his PR in the event. He would reach a distance of 14.32 meters, finishing second in the event, his highest career finish in the event across his four seasons with the Cardinals. After fouling on his first jump of the night, Bwalya came back and just missed the 13-meter mark on his second jump of the day. It was his third jump that would be the longest for the senior as he reached 14.32 meters and advanced himself to the finals of the event. He would nearly break that mark on his final jump of the day, hitting 14.29 meters to finish out the day. After taking third at the Indoor Championships in the event, it was a strong ending to the conference portion of the event for the senior jumper.
The rest of the day's action would come on the track with two Cardinals competing in finals events. The first was Joshua Boehm, who qualified for the 400-Meter Dash finals on day two of competition. He would be the second Cardinal of the day to hit the podium, taking third in the Men's 400-Meter Dash. He would finish with a time of 48.35 in the event, finishing a half a second faster than his closest competitor to earn his spot on the podium. The other finals event for the Cardinals was the Men's 800 Meter where freshman Magnus Polkner took the track. He would finish fourth in the event, two spots higher than his finals finish, running a time of 1:54.75 and would finish one spot shy of the podium on the day.
The final individual event for the Cardinals was the 1500 Meter Run where Shane Levesque would lead the Cardinals. He finished 12th in the event with a time of 4:03.34 as he rounded out his strong outdoor season. The Cardinals would have two relay teams competing on the day as they competed in the 4x100 Meter and the 4x400 Meter Dash on the day. The 4x100 Meter Dash would lead things off as Caden Canning, Alonso Martinez, Drew Pierce, and Mitchell Kobango who would run a time of 46.60 seconds and finished 8th in the field. The other relay team consisted of Levesque, Pierce, Polkner, and Boehm, and the foursome would finish 10th overall with a time of 3:33.88 to round out the day.
