Wheeling, W. Va - The Wheeling Baseball team (9-24, 2-14) is set to play Bethany College on Thursday, April 17 at the JB Chambers I-470 Complex with first pitch at 6 PM. The Cardinals are looking to gain the win after losing their weekend series with Frostburg State.
Last time out, the Cardinals hit the road to Frostburg, MD to play Frostburg State in a weekend series. Due to inclement weather in Frostburg, the Saturday/Sunday games were shifted to Sunday/Monday. The Cardinals were able to keep a three run difference in the first two games on Sunday, but struggled to close the gap on Monday and ended both games with a nine run difference. The Cardinals would score a total of 10 runs over the four games, while Frostburg would score 34. During their first game on Monday, the Cardinals would have eight runs off of eight hits; their most hits and runs of the weekend.
During their first game game on Sunday, Wes Landis would open the game and record one of his best games of the season with eight strikeouts. Landis has appeared in eight games this season and he has accumulated five or more strikeouts in seven of those games. Three of those games have been seven strikeouts or higher.
The last time that the Cardinals and Bisons played an inseason game was back in 2008 where Wheeling would beat Bethany 10-3. The Cardinals are looking to gain a win after their weekend series loss against Frostburg State, and have to move games due to inclement weather.
