Women's Lacrosse Wraps up Home Regular Season Schedule vs. Charleston

Wheeling W. Va. - On Saturday, April 12, the Wheeling Women's Lacrosse Team (6-5, 4-2) hosted West Virginia Wesleyan for senior day. Three seniors were recognized, Sarah Artzer, Maisy Latus, and Paige Jankowski, and were able to help bring home another Mountain East Conference (MEC) win against Wesleyan. The Cardinals will host the University of Charleston, WV on Wednesday, April 16 with opening draw at 4 PM.

Last time out, the Cardinals met West Virginia Wesleyan for the second time in MEC play. The Cardinals gained their second win against Wesleyan to make them 4-2 in MEC play and to clinch a spot in the playoffs. Six Cardinals would contribute points with four of them having a hat trick or two (three goals). A few Cardinals would also show their versatility on the field with one for them being senior goalkeeper Maisy Latus. Latus started off in goal for the first quarter, but once the cardinals were up 13-1, she would move to the attacking end for the last three quarters, and would contribute three goals. Freshman defender Krystianna Lazore Waugh would also show her talents on the attacking end with contributing two assists in the game. Trinity Rose would once again lead the Cardinals in goals (6), points (7), ground balls (6), caused turnovers (7), and draw controls (9).

The Cardinals will be meeting up with Charleston for the second time in MEC play at home. Their last meet up, the Cardinals took a trip down to Charleston, WV, but would not be able to return home with a win. Charleston would out score the Cardinals in the first quarter 7-1 and keep their lead the whole game. With the Cardinals having home field advantage, they are looking to gain their first win against Charleston this season and stay in the number two seed for the MEC tournament.

With the Cardinals gaining a win against West Virginia Wesleyan, they have officially punched their card for the MEC tournament. With Dominican University of California joining the MEC this year, they automatically get the number three seed for the tournament. The number three and four seed teams will have to battle it out in a play-in game to be the number four seed for the semifinals. This will be Wheelings first appearance in the MEC tournament since 2019 where they made it to the championship game against UVa-Wise. The Cardinals will be looking to make their mark in the tournament and prepare for what's to come in the future of Wheeling Women's Lacrosse.
