Mount Olive, NC. – As they made their trip down south, the Wheeling University Outdoor Track & Field team split up for a dual weekend. After the Duke Invitational kicked things off, the Mount Olive Invitational would begin with the throwing events taking center stage. The Cardinals had one competitor on the day as Mariah Pelkey took on the Women's Hammer Throw to begin the event.
Pelkey competed in the event for third time during the outdoor season and was able to get things going strong for the Cardinals. She was able to tie her PR in the event, launching the hammer 33.12 meters on the day to finish 18th in the field. It would fly . 13 meters farther than her throw at the Dave Labor Invitational as she continues to increase her distance ahead of the 2025 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships in two weeks
Day two of the Mount Olive Trojan Relays is scheduled for Saturday, April 12th, with first events beginning at 10 AM.
