Huntington, W. Va. - After kicking off the 2025 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday, the Wheeling University Men's Indoor Track & Field team returned to action for day two on Monday. It was a heavy field day for the team, with three field events and two track events leading the way, as the Cardinals finished 10th in the field as team. However, they would add one man to the podium with a huge PR in the Men's Triple Jump leading the way.
Kabwe Bwalya would take the runway for the Cardinals in the Triple Jump, competing in his second event of the day. He would compete among the best jumpers in the conference in the second flight of the day, and hit a strong start, making 14.10 meters on his first jump of the day. It would be his best of the flight, as he set a new PR by .05 meters, and advanced to the finals to compete for the MEC Individual title. It would come down to his final jump of the day, but Bwalya launched himself 14.40 meters to expand on that earlier PR. He would finish third in the competition, and his jump moved him to #2 all-time in Men's Indoor Track & Field history. He took third place in the event for the third season in a row, cracking the podium as the Cardinal's lone individual competitor. He now looks ahead to the last chance meets as he tries to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The other event for Bwalya was the Men's High Jump, which was the first event of the day for the Cardinals. Bwalya kicked things off strong, clearing the 1.72 meter mark on the first try, and that is where he would end the day, taking 10th overall in the event. The other field event for the Cardinals was the Men's Weight Throw, as
Tristen Tuttle took the circle. He would end up not making a distance, fouling three times to end his day at his first conference championship event. The lone individual track event for the men was the Mile, where
Shane Levesque competed. The sophomore would finish with a time of 4:24.57 to take 14th overall, while finishing 8th all-time in the event in Indoor Program history.
The final event of the day was the Men's 4x400-Meter Dash where
Shane Levesque, Erik Berroa, Alonso Martinez, and Ayoub Jalli took the blocks. The team would finish 10th with a time of 3:46.87, with Jalli and Levesque each running sub 53 splits for the event.
The Wheeling University Indoor Track & Field team will now look ahead to their possible Last Chance meets, while the rest of the athletes prepare for Outdoor Track & Field season.
