Canton, OH. – Day three of the 2025 Mountain East Conference (MEC)/Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) Championships was another championship day for the Wheeling Women's Swimming team. They crowned their second individual MEC Championship of the event and had nine swimmers competing in final events. The Cardinals continue to rack up All-MEC titles as they maintained their fifth place standing with 428 points.
It was another day and another MEC title for junior Gabby Baiano, who took on the Women's 500-Yard Freestyle. After qualifying for the A Final in the morning, Baiano would face an all GMAC lineup as she headed into the final swims. With the MEC title already captured, she would just focus on swimming her fastest time of the day. She would finish 6th overall with a time of 5:10.13. It was her second MEC Championship of the event, tying her for her total from last season. As she enters the final day of competition on Saturday, and the junior looks to add a third title to set a new career high for the event.
The next Cardinal swimmer to compete in one of the top events was Jade Miller, who swam the B Final of the 100-Yard Backstroke. She would battle for second, with Frostburg State's Lydia Nebiolo having already claiming the MEC Championship. Miller would take that second place crown, swimming a time of 59.69 to finish 11th overall in the event. The final Cardinal to take on a B Final was Lacie Langmyer, who followed Baiano in the 500-Yard Freestyle. Langmyer would finish fourth among MEC opponents, swimming against two other MEC swimmers in the final. She would finish 15th overall with a time of 5:23.59 and finishing fourth among the MEC competition.
The other Cardinals to swim in finals were in the C Final, with the 500-Yard Freestyle kicking things off. Grace Moorley would kick things off, taking 17th at 5:22.14, winning the heat, while Sofia Castillo would take 23rd overall with a time of 5:30.68, swimming in her second straight C Final. In the 100-Yard Breaststroke it was Sofia Gonzalez Bernal taking on the C Final, swimming a time of 1:13.42. The final C Final event would be the 200-Yard Butterfly, with three different Cardinals competing. Olivia Moyer would take the top spot, finishing 17th with a time of 2:23.80, and Castillo finished behind her in 18th at 2:26.84. The final Cardinal to swim was Elizabeth Strange, who took 23rd with a time of 2:54.72, competing in her first career individual final event.
The day rounded out with the relay events as the team swam in the 800-Yard Freestyle Relay. The team of Baiano, Moorley, Langmyer, and Lydie Sprecher would earn Second Team All-MEC honors, taking fifth overall with a time of 7:58.77.
The final day of the 2025 MEC/GMAC Championship is scheduled for Saturday, February 15th, with preliminary swims beginning at 10 AM.
