Wheeling, W. Va. - After sitting out the day one events, the Wheeling University Men's Indoor Track & Field team took to the field for the 2025 YSU-Mid Major on Saturday. Wheeling crowned one individual champion in the field events, and had two top 10 finishers to round out a big day. It was the Cardinal's final tournament of this current three NCAA DI Tournament stretch and they continue to improve for the 2025 MEC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The top individual honor came courtesy of senior Kabwe Bwalya as he took on the Men's High Jump. Bwalya would set a new PR in the event, reaching a height of 1.75 meters, as he claimed the top spot in the field. He would compete against five fellow Mountain East Conference (MEC) competitors, and was one of three athletes to reach the 1.75 meter mark. He would be able to clear the mark on his first jump of the night, earning him the top spot in the field. Bwalya would be the one to earn the other top 10 finish for the Cardinals, this time coming in the Men's Triple Jump. Bwalya would set a season-best mark in the event, reaching a distance of 13.55 meters, taking sixth in the field. Bwalya was the only field competitor for the Cardinals, but made his impact on his team.
Wheeling rounded out the day on the track with both the sprinters and distance runners competing. The top finish would come in the 60-Meter Dash, where Jan Wray led the way taking 17th with a time of 7.17 seconds. Ayoub Jalli would compete in his first-ever Track & Field event, and would end up taking 21st in the field with a time of 7.21 seconds. As the event moved to the 200-Meter Dash, freshman Drew Pierce took to the blocks and would run a time of 25.24 to take 80th in the field. The final event was the Men's 1 Mile, with Shane Levesque running for the Cardinals. Levesque would take 33rd overall with a time of 4:37.09 to round out the day for the Track events.
The Wheeling University Men's Indoor Track & Field team returns to action on Friday, February 7th, when they take on the Judd Logan Invitational, hosted by Ashland University.
