Wheeling WV. - Wheeling Women's rugby (9-0) is wrapping up their regular season against the University of Virginia (4-0). Both teams are undefeated and are looking to bring momentum into the playoffs.
Last time we saw Wheeling was two weeks ago when they played a weekend double header against St. Bonaventure University and the University of Cincinnati. Wheeling won those games by a combined score of 238-10. Against St. Bonaventure Bella Gullatta broke the NCR single game scoring record with 54 points. Heavenly Afase, Alexis Dallas, and Tamzin Boyce would all score multiple tries as well. The following day against Cincinnati Wheeling spread the love as 12 different Cardinals would find the try box by the end of the contest.
The Cardinals are averaging 71 points per game this season. They have shared the love all year round, with 28 players scoring throughout the season. The offensive end hasn't been the only place they excelled though. They are only giving up an average of 3 points per game. Their stern defense has allowed the offense to get the ball in good position and score often.
Wheeling met Virginia in the first round of the playoffs last year and came away with a 31-27 victory propelling them to a national championship. This year they will look to use a victory against Virginia to spark another playoff run. Alexis Dallas and Tamzin Boyce both scored multiple tries in the game last year. They are a core piece of the team this year as well and will be a big part of this year's gameplan.
Kickoff is scheduled for 11 AM at Madison Bowl just off the campus of the University of Virginia. Follow along with us at wucardinals.com for updates.
