Wheeling, W. Va. - In just one week, both the Wheeling University Men's and Women's Basketball Teams will tip off the 2025-2026 season. Before they get started, both teams announced a change to the non-conference schedule that will move the first Basketball doubleheader of the Year back to a Sunday. The Men's Basketball matchup against Winston-Salem that was originally scheduled for November 22nd will now be played on November 23rd at noon, and Women's Basketball's matchup with Washington Adventist will follow at 2 PM.
The move was made to accommodate the possibility of the Wheeling University Volleyball team hosting the 2025 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Volleyball Tournament. The 2025 MEC Volleyball Tournament runs from Thursday, November 20th, to Saturday, November 22nd, with the championship match being hosted on Saturday. The university will also be hosting the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference (OVAC) Cheerleading Championships that day in the move will allow a clean transition from that event to the possible Championship match in the MEC. It will continue a daunting non-conference schedule for both teams stay prepare to take on their MEC schedule beginning at the end of November.
The Men's Basketball Team starts their season on the road with each of their first Free games being played away from the Alma Grace McDonough Center. They open the season at the West Liberty Tip-Off Classic on November 14th & 15th. They will take on Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponents CAL-U and Clarion to start the year. They will continue their stretch against the PSAC when they hit the road to face Slippery Rock on November 19th, before coming home for their home opener on November 23rd with Winston-Salem. On the opposite side, the Women's Basketball team gets the luxury of playing at home for each of its first six games. They tip off the season on November 14th when they battle Cal-U, and follow it up with Edinboro the next day. They then host Pitt-Johnstown Ib November 19th before the match-up on the 23rd with Washington Adventist.
Both teams Tip-Off 2025-2026 On Friday, November 14th, with Women's Basketball hosting CAL-U at 2 PM, while the Men play CAL-U on the Hilltop at 8 PM.
