Wheeling WV. - The Wheeling Women's Rugby team (10-0) is hosting Penn State (2-4). This game is the semifinal of the National Collegiate Rugby playoffs. The winner of this game will head down to Houston December 6th to play the winner of Southern Nazarene and BYU.
Wheeling finished their regular season perfect with a 55-24 victory against the University of Virginia. It was a game of runs in Charlottesville. Wheeling started out with a 22-0 lead, Virginia would then score the next 14. Wheeling would add 14 of their own to make it 36-22, after that both teams traded scores a couple times and Wheeling finished with back to back tries.
Rafi Barrack and Marlee Garrison both scored two tries and Bella Gullatta would add 10 points all from conversion kicks.
Both teams opened their seasons against each other in Wheeling on August 30th. It was all Wheeling during that game, finishing 87-0 Cardinals. Bella Gullatta set a then career high that game with 37 points, she later broke that and the NCR single game record with 54 points. Emerson Callegari and Shannon Whypji followed behind her with 15 points each in that game.
Last year Wheeling started the NCR playoffs with a win against Virginia and met Southern Nazarene in the Championship game. This year they beat Virginia to close the regular season and Southern Nazarene is a potential National Championship game opponent. These could be good signs for the Cardinals as they look to repeat as NCR 15's National Champions.
Kickoff is scheduled for 5 PM at Bishop Schmitt Field here on the campus of Wheeling University. You can watch the game live by clicking HERE.
