Cardinals Outmatched by Senators on the Road

Elkins, W. Va- The Wheeling University Men's Soccer team (1-7-1), (0-6-1) faced off against the Davis & Elkins Senators. The Cardinals are typically known for their defensive style of play, and their opponents find their defense to be frustrating at times, however, the Senators found ways to maneuver and position themselves in the right spots and were able to get the 4-0 win in front of their home fans.

The Senators' offense got off to a lightning-fast start with a goal in the opening minute and a half to set the tone for the match. Wheeling was down early, but they still tried to create chances in the D&E zone with multiple corner kick opportunities across the entirety of the first half. Elie Simon came close to tying up the score in the 41st minute with a shot on goal, but a stop from the goalkeeper kept the advantage to their opponent. The Senators formed a counterattack, pressed down the field, and would go up by two with just 21 seconds left until halftime.

After the break, D&E continued to look for offense. Daniel Delo was up to the task of stopping the shot from Joao Cavaletti, but the Senators were able to keep playing in the Cardinal's end and would be rewarded with another goal in the 58th minute to go up 3-0. A shot from Josh D'oyen-Fitchett tested the keeper but was brushed aside and punted to the other side of the field. The save from the Senators goalkeeper sparked the team to bury a shot to extend their lead to four in the 70th minute. D&E were looking to add yet another goal late in the match, but the Cardinal defense would force four consecutive shots off target. However, the result of the contest did not change as Wheeling would fall 4-0 to D&E.

The Wheeling University Men's Soccer team matches up against the Concord Mountain Lions in Athens, WV on Wednesday, October 8th, 2025,with the opening kickoff slated for 4pm.
