Geneva, OH. – The Wheeling University Indoor Men's Track & Field team continued their run through NCAA DI competition on Saturday at the SPIRE Midwest Open. The Cardinals finished with three top 20 finishers on the day as they continue to build towards the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championships. The top 20 finishes were split between the track and field as they continue building their times.
The top finish on the day came from the only field competitor, Kabwe Bwalya in the jumps. He competed in the Men's Triple Jump, and was the money top 10 finisher for the team, taking seventh with a distance of 13.14 meters. It was the third straight event where Bwalya has finished top 10 in every event as he set a new season-best in the event. The other two top 20 finishes came in the track, courtesy of the sprinters. It came in the 60-Meter Dash preliminaries, where Joshua Boehm and Jan Wray both competed. Boehm would compete in the event for the first time this season, and finished 14th with a time of 7.11 seconds. Jan Wray would finish two spots behind him, running a time of 7.13 seconds to fall just . 02 seconds off the pace.
The rest of the competition for the Cardinals came on the track, starting with the distance runners. Shane Levesque would take on the Men's 1 Mile, finishing 36th with a time of 4:31.63. The 800 Meter Dash rounded out the day for the distance runners, with Magnus Polkner taking 29th with a time of 2:02.49 and Levesque taking 35th with a time of 2:03.43. the final track event of the day was the 200-Meter Dash as Wray and Drew Pierce competed. Wray was the top placer out of the two, finishing 46th with a time of 23.56, while Drew Pierce finished 90th with a time of 25.35 to round out the day.
The Wheeling University Men's Indoor Track & Field team returns to action on Friday, January 31st, when they take on the YSU Mid-Major.
