Farrow Takes Top Three Finish to Lead SPIRE Midwest Open

Geneva, OH. – The stretch of NCAA D I tournaments continued for the Wheeling Women's Indoor Track & Field team on Saturday as they competed at the SPIRE Midwest Open. The Cardinals had two top 20 finishers on the day as they continue improving their times and distances. It was the track events that led the way for the Cardinals, with the lone top 10 finish coming from the sprints.

That effort came from Shannon Farrow, who began her day in the 60-Meter Dash preliminaries. She would grab the second to last qualifying spot in that preliminary, running a time of 7.95, making her the fifth fastest runner in NCAA DII. She competed in the finals a few events later, and dropped .08 seconds off her time. It would boost her four spots in the standings, placing third overall with a time of 7.88. She was second fastest among NCAA DII competitors, falling just . 09 seconds behind the top spot in the field. Her other event on the day was the 200-Meter Dash as she finished the day with the sprinters. She would take 35th overall with a time of 27.13 seconds as she brought her day to an end

It was a heavy track day for the Cardinals overall, with the sprinters taking center stage. Also running in the 60-Meter Dash preliminaries was Deja Ryals, who finished 27th with a time of 8.21 seconds. Her best event of the day was the 200-Meter Dash, where she would be the top runner for the Cardinals, taking 24th with a time of 26.79. The final track event for the Cardinals was the 800-Meter Dash with Sophia Tomana running. Tomana would place 79th in the field with a time of 2:59.13 as she rounded out the day. The lone field event for the Cardinals was the Women's High Jump, where Tara Perry took the final top 20 spot. She would finish 15th overall with a height of 1.50 Meters to round out the day.

The Wheeling University Women's Indoor Track & Field team returns to action on Friday, January 31st, when they compete at the YSU-Mid Major.
