Duzmann Tied for First After One Round of Hanasstown Invitational

Greensburg, PA. – The Hanasstown Invitational kicked off on Monday as the Wheeling University Men's Golf team took the course for their third Invitational of the year. The team had to play through the rain drops, but completed 18 holes as the Cardinals finished 10th in the field. It was a big day for several Cardinal golfers as they find one a top the leaderboard after day one of competition.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was sophomore Robin Duzmann, who sits tied for first after 18 holes of play. It was the first top finish of his career after a single round as he set a new career-high shooting a 70. Duzmann was able to lead the way for the Cardinals for the fourth time in five rounds this season. Finishing behind him was another PR effort for sophomore Luis Alvarez. He picked up his first career top 20 finish, shooting a career best 74 on the day. It was the first time in his collegiate career that Alvarez broke the 75 stroke mark and he looks to continue his growth throughout the season. Of the six Cardinals who competed, five of them finished under the 80 stroke mark in what was a big day for the team overall.

Following behind them were Ryan Courtney, who continued his string of sub 80 efforts, shooting a 76 on the day. He has yet to go over the 80 stroke male on any of his five rounds played and got off to a good start through the first 18 holes. Phillip Halvorsen would follow in a tie for 79th, shooting a 79 through 18 holes of play. Halvorsen continues his success on the course rounding out the day for the sub 80 golfers. The final Cardinal to compete was Caleb Minson, who would make his collegiate debut for the team. Minson had a strong outing, shooting an 82 to round out the day and finish in a tie for 79th.

Round two of the Hanasstown Invitational continues on Tuesday, followed by the third round of competition beginning at around 9 AM.
