Elkins, W. Va- Over the past two days, the Wheeling Men's Golf team has performed exceptionally well as the represent the Cardinals in the Dr. Wally Edgell Invitational. Rounds one and two were played Monday, but round three was played Tuesday. The Cardinals took home a top 10 finish, placing seventh with a combined score of 915. Three golfers placed in the top 20, making it a very productive day.
Robin Duzman and
Phillip Halvorsen had themselves a day on the course. Duzman hit two Birdies to end the round after shooting for par six times with four total Bogeys. He hit for par on seven out of the nine first to make his round score 74. His performance was good enough to move up two slots in the overall rankings, finishing at 14
th. Halvorsen started the third round with an impressive score of 34 on the first nine holes recording four birdies and four pars. He started the back nine strong, hitting the first three holes for par and sinking a Birdie on the fourth hole. He finished with a final round score of 72, which would leapfrog him 13 spots in the rankings to place 17
th.
Ryan Courtney ended the day tying with Halvorsen at 17
th. He shot a 40 in the first round but did better in the second as on his last four holes, he registered three Birdies for a 36 and a round score of 72.
Lodin Femoen ended his first nine with a 40 as well and would also do slightly better in the second, shooting two Birdies for a 39. His round score of 79 boosted his spot by seven in the rankings for a 64
th place finish.
Lorenzo Lupi, for the second straight tournament, competed independently for a combined total score of 250 to place 71
st.
The Wheeling Men's Golf team will have the week to rest but will return to the course on September 23-24
th for the West Liberty Invitational in West Liberty, WV.
