Nic Kjaerholt Named Assistant Athletic Director

The Wheeling University Athletic Department added to its Administration team on Monday with the announcement of Nic Kjaerholt as the department's new Assistant Athletic Director.

Kjaerholt is no stranger to the Wheeling University campus, serving as the Academic Success Services Coordinator and the Director of International Admissions for each of the last two years. He is excited about the opportunity and looks forward to helping Wheeling Athletics grow into the future.

"As the new Assistant Athletic Director, I am really excited to continue to be a part of this amazing community," said Kjaerholt. "Our school is growing and doing great things, and I can't wait to continue to help. Our student-athletes, coaches, and staff work really hard, and I want to support them so we all can succeed together. Let's keep moving forward and reach new goals. Go Cardinals!"

He joins the Athletic Department after serving as the Academic Success Services Coordinator and the Director of International Admissions. In the Student Success Center, he was responsible for ensuring the academic success of students and making sure the Student Success center ran efficiently. As Director of International Admissions, his responsibilities included recruiting and admitting international students from all over the world. In both roles, he ensured students' academic success, and looks to bring that into the athletic world to help the students become well rounded individuals.

"We are excited to have Nic Kjaerholt transition to our Athletic leadership and Administration team," said Wheeling Athletic Director Carrie Hanna. "He brings an exceptional skill set and high level of professionalism to enhance the Cardinal student-athlete experience."

Kjaerholt has also been a part of the Wheeling Athletics family, having served as the Associate Head Coach for the Wheeling Women's Basketball team under Head Coach Anna Kowalska. During his two seasons, the team combined to go 32-26 and have made the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Tournament in each year. Prior to Wheeling, Kjaerholt spent a season as Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at Life University during the 2021-22 season. He helped lead the team to the Mid-South Conference Tournament, where they took on Bethel University. Prior to Life University, he spent a season at WVU Tech, under Coach Kowalska, helping them to a conference championship and their third straight national tournament berth, and spent four seasons as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach with the Golden Bears.

Kjaerholt lives in Wheeling with his wife Anna Kowalska, and their two sons Noah and Kylo.
