Berea, OH. – The week of Last Chance Meets continued for the Wheeling Outdoor Track & Field team with day two of the Harrison Dillard Twilight. After the throwing events got things kicked things off on Thursday, it was time for the track events to get their start on day two. The Cardinals had five competitors competing in six different events on the road to the NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
It was senior
Moses Koroma who led the way, competing in both the 110-Meter Hurdles and the 400-Meter Hurdles. He would begin the day in the short distance events, running the preliminaries of the 110-Meter Hurdles. He would end up winning that preliminary event, running a time of 14.35 seconds beating out Bluffton's Desmond Gist by .01 seconds. When he came back for the finals, Koroma would end up finishing 7th with a time of 15.35 seconds to end the event. He would come back in the 400-Meter Hurdles, and he would pick up his second top 10 finish of the day. This time, he would take ninth overall with a time of 54.19 seconds, to round out his day. It was 1.21 seconds slower than his championship time, as he looks to qualify in multiple events at Nationals for the first time in his career.
The field events kicked off the day, with
Keala McCurry competing in the Women's Pole Vault. McCurry would take 15th in the event, vaulting a height of 3.41 meters as she rounds out her Last Chance schedule. The only other field event for the Cardinals on the day was the Men's Pole Vault as
Elijah Young competed. Young would end up picking up the first top 10 finish of the day, vaulting a height of 4.42 meters, setting a new career-high, clearing the mark on his second attempt. Wheeling would round out the day competing in one more track event.
Jenay Soumahro would run in the Women's 400-Meter Hurdles, taking 12th with a time of 1:07.11.
The final Last Chance Meets for the Wheeling Outdoor Track & Field team is scheduled for Sunday, May 12th, with first events kicking off at 10 AM.
