Eli Young’s Big Jumps Lead Wheeling on Day Two of Tiffin Track Carnival

Wheeling, W. Va. - After an abbreviated day one due to technical difficulties, day two saw the rest of the events compete on Saturday. The event went into the early hours of Sunday morning as the events were getting caught up, but some big performances for the Cardinals would wrap up the successful weekend. There were several top 10 performances throughout the afternoon, but it was the jumps and pole vaults that led the way.

Senior Eli Young would compete in both events, with his top finish coming in the Men's Long Jump. The senior set a new season-best in the event, jumping 6.43 meters to take fifth place overall. He would hit the mark on his second jump of the day and picked up the first of two top 10 finishes on the afternoon. The other top 10 mark came in Young's primary event as he took 7th in the Men's Pole Vault. He vaulted a height of 3.35 meters, hitting the mark on his second attempt to beat out Ian Alves Queralto. The final jumping event of the day was the triple jump, where the jumpers picked up their third straight top five finish with Kabwe Bwalya taking fifth. He jumped a distance of 13.01 meters to pick up the top five finish and round out what was a strong day for the jumpers.

The final field event of the day would be the Men's Discus as Dorian Gray was the lone competitor for the Cardinals. Gray would toss a distance of 31.28 meters to take 41st in the field to round out the field competitions. The Cardinal men competed in two of the four relays on the day, running in the 4X100 Meter Dash and the 4X400 Meter Run. They would put together equal eighth place finishes in both races, running a time of 42.10 in the 4X100 Meter Race and a 3:33.72 in the 4x400 meter.

On the track, the success kept on coming from day one of competition, with the first top-10 finish coming in the 400-Meter Run. Joshua Boehm would lead the Cardinals with a seventh place finish, running a time of 48.73 seconds to lead the way. The distance runners would keep the success going as Hunter Tomich competed in the Men's 10,000 Meter run. He would finish eighth with a time of 32:35.47 in the event as he led the distance group. The hurdlers would round out the day in the 110-Meter Hurdles, with Damian Jackson leading the way. He would finish 16th with a time of 18.31 seconds to round out the day.

The Wheeling University Outdoor Track & Field team returns to action on Friday, April 19th, when they split up for the Otterbein Invitational and the Jesse Owens Invitational.
