Huntington, W. Va. – The 2024 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Indoor Track & Field Championships wrapped up on Saturday from Marshall University. The Wheeling University Men's Indoor Track & Field team took fifth in the field as they sent 10 runners to the finals on day two of competition. They came home with one MEC Individual Champion and several top five finishes on the day.
The championship would come in the first event of the day as
Moses Koroma took to the track in the 60-Meter Hurdle. After winning the event a season ago, it was another strong showing this season as he defended his title. He would take the crown with a time of 8.04 seconds as he beat out West Liberty's Mikhi Anderson by .02 seconds.
Damian Jackson would also compete and take third in the event with a time of 8.23. The 60-Meter Dash was up next as four Cardinals would occupy the eight spots.
Calvin Blunt would lead the Cardinals with a second place finish, running a time of 6.987 seconds to set a new PR, while Koroma was back at it taking third with a time of 6.989 seconds. Tre Holloway would add a PR performance at 7.04 seconds to take seventh and
Ibrahim Fall rounded out the field at 8.60 seconds.
The track events would continue with the Men's 400 -Meter dash as
Joshua Boehm and
Jabar Sellers competed. Boehm would lead the way, finishing second and hitting the NCAA Provo Mark with a time of 48.84 seconds while Sellers took third with a time of 49.31 to set a new PR. The final individual track event was the 200-Meter Dash where
Ibrahim Fall took second with a time of 21.90 seconds. The track events rounded out the day as
Hunter Tomich,
Jan Wray,
Damian Jackson, and Boehm competed. The team finished ninth with a time of 3:35.19 to round out the day.
The field events would wrap up the day as the jumpers rounded out the day. The triple jump saw the Cardinals pick up two more top ten finishes on the day.
Kabwe Bwalya would end up taking third with a distance of 13.75 meters while
Daimar Ivey took sixth with a distance of 13.30 meters.
The Wheeling Indoor Track & Field team now awaits for their last chance meets as they try to qualify for the NCAA Indoor National Championships.
