Canton, OH. – After two greuling days of competition, the Wheeling University Men's Swimming team was back at the C.T. Branin Natatorium for day three of the Malone Invitational. The Cardinals added a pair of top 10 finishes to round out the event, finishing sixth overall in the field of 14 teams. It was the Cardinal's highest Midseason finish since the program's rebirth and they look to keep the success going as they prepare for the second half of the season.
Leading the way on the final day was
Euan MacLeod, who rounded out a strong week overall. The freshman's biggest event on day three came in the 100-Yard Freestyle, as he finished a strong weekend of short distance events. He finished third overall, swimming a time of 46.10, and finishing .22 seconds off the pace of the leader. The Cardinal's second top ten finish of the day would also come from the 100 Free, with
Arvid Hoglund swimming the B Final. Hoglund was able to win the heat, finishing ninth with a time of 46.71, beating the rest of his heat by .04 seconds. The Cardinals finished with at least two top ten finishers everyday as they continue to grow in the pool throughout the season.
The day started in long distance events, with the swimming of the 1650 Yard Freestyle. Wheeling placed one swimmer inside the top 15, with Nathan Riegel taking that 15
th spot with a time of 18:06.71. The Men's 200 Backstroke was up next and
Evan Yost built off a strong performance on day two. The freshman swam in the B Finals, and finished 11
th overall at 2:02.39. Behind MacLeod and Hoglund in the 100 freestyle was Sarp Killic, who won the C Final with a 17
th place finish at 48.03.
Alex Ferebee would make his first final event of the weekend, swimming in the C Finals of the 200-Yard Breaststroke, and taking 21
st at 2:32.46.
Nathan Yost rounded out the individual swims in the C Final of the 200 Butterfly, finishing 22
nd with a time of 2:10.70.
The event would come to an end in the relays as the team took on the 400-Yard Medley Relay. MacLeod, Killic,
Patrick Kirby, and Hoglund would combine to finish third with a time of 3:08.80 to round out the event.
The Wheeling University Men's Swimming team returns to action on January 4
th when they battle Lenoir-Rhyne in dual meet action.
