Wheeling Wrestling Announces Changes to Upcoming Schedule

Wheeling, W. Va. - As the first half of the 2024-2025 season begins to wind down for the Wheeling University Wrestling team, the team has announced some changes to the upcoming schedule. The Storm Open, originally scheduled for Sunday, December 1st, has been canceled by the host school and the dual meet against WVU Tech on December 6th has been canceled due to scheduling conflicts with the 2024 NCAA DII Atlantic Regional Volleyball tournament. The team will be looking for a tournament to replace the Storm Open later this season.

The Wheeling Wrestlers are coming off a showing at the Findlay open, where they faced some of their toughest competition of the season. The Cardinals were forced to medically forfeit two of their wrestlers and gave some of their starters the weekend off after riding the high of a dual meet win at Washington & Jefferson. There, the Cardinals would take down the Presidents 35-11, picking up their first dual meet win since February of 2022. The Cardinals have had some strong performers throughout the season, with Gavin Harper leading the way in the heavyweight class with a record of 7-5. The Cardinals have three other wrestlers holding a .500 or better record this season and they look to continue to grow as they build towards the 2024 MEC Wrestling Championships.

The Wheeling University Wrestling team will return to action on Saturday, December 14th, when they head to the Midwest Classic with first matches beginning at 9 AM. Any schedule updates in the meantime will be announced here at wucardinals.com
