Men’s Golf Wraps Up Day One of MEC Spring Classic

Charleston, W. Va. – Spring is in the air and for the Wheeling University Men's Golf team, that meant it was time for their first spring tournament of the year. They played the first 18 holes of the MEC Spring Classic and saw three of their golfers take the course. While there was no team score, the Cardinals didn't have the day they would have liked with all three golfers shooting 90+ on the day.

Leading the way was sophomore Nick Zaller, who was the Cardinal's second best golfer during the Fall season. After having an average round score of just over 83 during the fall, Zaller would finish 60th overall on day one, shooting a 91. He finished nine strokes out of the top 50 in the field and looks to rebound on day two of competition. Zaller is competing in two sports this spring as a member of both the Men's Golf team and the Men's Outdoor Track & Field team. Zaller finished +20 for the course and sits three strokes behind West Liberty's Bryan Courts for 59th in the field.

The other two Cardinal golfers were sophomore Alex Parker and Freshman Ethan Short. Both golfers finished with identical 95s on the day and tied for 62nd in the field. They beat out West Virginia State's Logan Burdette by four strokes and sit one stroke behind State's Justin Williams. Both golfers were+24 on the day and looked to bounce back with 18 more holes scheduled for day two.

The second day of the MEC Spring Classic is scheduled for Tuesday, March 28th, with the round teeing off at 9 AM.
